1: 316L steel introduction
316L is a low carbon version of 316 stainless steel. It is not precipitated by carbides at the grain boundaries, i.e. it is not affected by sensitization. Therefore, it is used extensively for welded parts with a thickness greater than 0.2 inches. The austenitic structure also provides these grades of stainless steel with incredible toughness, even down to extremely low temperatures, for example -150 degrees Celsius (-238° F) to absolute zero (-460° F).
